SACRAMENTO — Governor Gavin Newsom today issued the following statement regarding the death of Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Joseph Gilbert Solano:
“Jennifer and I are saddened to learn of Deputy Solano’s tragic death. On behalf of all Californians, we offer our heartfelt condolences to Deputy Solano’s loved ones and the entire Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department as they mourn Deputy Solano’s loss and cope with this senseless killing.”
Deputy Solano, 50, died June 12, 2019, succumbing to injuries from being shot in a restaurant two days prior.
Deputy Solano served with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for 13 years and was most recently assigned to the Access to Care Bureau.
He is survived by his mother, son, sister, long-time girlfriend and his girlfriend’s daughter.
In honor of Deputy Solano, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.
