Governor's Remarks at Sierra Nevada Brewery About the Hydrogen Fuel Cell
Thank you.
It’s great to be here today to talk about the future of Hydrogen power.
During my campaign I talked about the benefits of Hydrogen Power, and everyone said we couldn’t do it, it’s years away.
Yet here we are today with more and more businesses realizing that Hydrogen Power is not only good for the air we breathe and the water we drink, it is also good for the bottom line.
I want to congratulate Ken Grossman and his entire team for being at the forefront of this revolution.
And I think this is fantastic because as you know I am a huge fan of Hydrogen Power.
Hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe. In fact, some call it "the forever fuel" because its supply is unlimited.
It is incredibly efficient and almost emission free, and we can get hydrogen from so many sources to power our way into the future.
And I believe the state should be a strong partner in developing and expanding the use of hydrogen.
That is why my budget for the coming year will spend an additional $6.5 Million to move us closer to a Hydrogen Highway by building hydrogen fueling stations and expanding our research and testing program.
Investing in hydrogen power is a smart choice for California and for California businesses.
Sierra Nevada expects to save about $400,000 a year on energy costs.
And what’s also terrific, is that by adopting a business model that moves them away from traditional power sources, they are finding additional ways to save money and conserve energy.
And this will be fantastic for California. Because everyone wants the same things for our state - a growing economy, affordable energy, and a cleaner environment.
And I know that by working together we can harness all of our ingenuity and passion for progress and build a California that is cleaner, greener and more prosperous than ever before.
Thank you.
