California is home to more than 75,000 foster children. This is a staggering number, and one that
calls us to action.
Each year, more than 13,000 foster families in California open their
hearts and homes to vulnerable children whose parents are not able to provide a
nurturing environment. These foster
families are an extremely powerful force for good in the lives of those they
embrace. I applaud them, along with the
public and private agencies that support these fantastic efforts, for building
brighter futures for our youth.
During Foster Care Awareness Month, California recommits itself to the
well-being of our foster care youth. I
urge all Californians - especially those who are able to open their homes to
children in need - to do everything possible to ensure that every child grows
up in a secure home with a family who loves and cares for them.
NOW,
THEREFORE, I, ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER, Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim May 2008, as
"Foster Care Awareness Month."

IN WITNESS
WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand
and caused the Great Seal of the State of California to be affixed this 6th day
of May 2008.
ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER
Governor of California
