In homes and synagogues, in churches and
mosques, in their work place and in thousands of other settings across our
nation, individuals and families pray.
They pray for strength and comfort in the face of challenges, and they pray
as an expression of gratitude for the blessings in their lives. Indeed, the quiet reflection that comes with
prayer has been a guide and inspiration to Americans since the days of our
Founding Fathers.
Today, as America commemorates a National Day
of Prayer, I hope all Californians will pause for at least a moment to reflect
on their lives and the opportunities and challenges we all share. I also hope the day will not go by without
our petitioning God for the safety of our brave troops, their families and the
many innocent civilians who find themselves at the battle's front.
May each of us, in our own way and according
to our own faith, find the time today to pray for our families and friends and
for our communities, state and nation.
NOW, THEREFORE,
I, ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER, Governor of the State of California,
do hereby proclaim May 1, 2008, as a "Day of Prayer" in California.

IN WITNESS
WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand
and caused the Great Seal of the State of California to be affixed this 2nd day
of April 2008.
ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER
Governor of California
