Californians are blessed to reside in a state that is the center of some of the world’s finest visual and performing arts institutions. We are proud to showcase such a diverse array of arts experiences from our world renowned museums such as the Getty Center in Los Angeles and the de Young Museum in San Francisco, to the exciting array of local arts enrichment programs and festivals found in every community of the state. With such a rich arts tradition, it only makes sense to continue and broaden our efforts to encourage the next generation of Californians to participate in and develop an appreciation for the arts.
By investing in arts education in our K-12 schools, we improve not only our children’s cognitive skills, but also give them new means to discover, explore and appreciate the beauty of the world around them. I am a strong believer in the tremendous impact that the arts can have on the young minds of our children, and I am committed to making sure that they are an integral part of every child’s education. In support of the arts, California has budgeted hundreds of millions of dollars to needed programs for the benefit of our children. Through the efforts of federal, state and local governments, non-profit organizations and concerned individuals, we will ensure that every student will be exposed to the benefits of arts education.
As we recognize California Arts Education Month, I encourage all Californians to join me in commending art educators and their supporters for their dedication to our kids.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER, Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim March 2007, as “California Arts Education Month.”

IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have here unto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of California to be affixed this 5th day of March 2007.
