October 2009, as “California Arts and Humanities Month.”
PROCLAMATION
by the
Governor of the State of California
California is a trendsetter. Whether we’re talking about the latest iPod or our laws to protect the environment, what starts here in our Golden State influences the world. This is especially true when it comes to the arts. Our painters, musicians, fashion designers, architects and other artists transform society with their extraordinary creations.
October is Arts and Humanities Month in America, and I encourage every Californian to renew or start their own trends in the arts. You don’t have to change the world, but you can gain an added richness to your own life as you explore new ways to express your creativity and enjoy the cultural opportunities that surround us. You could take a painting class, learn a new language, visit a museum, read a classic novel or take in a concert. Our communities provide endless possibilities, many of which are low cost or even free.
My thanks go to the artists, teachers and many others who strengthen the arts and humanities in our state. They provide experiences that have a profound effect on countless people, especially our youth who are developing their talents and interests. May each of us take part in the arts and humanities and add our own perspectives to California’s fantastic cultural legacy.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER, Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim October 2009, as “California Arts and Humanities Month.”
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of California to be affixed this 28th day of October 2009.
ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER
Governor of California
