May 2009, as “Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month”
PROCLAMATION
by the
Governor of the State of California

With its seemingly endless miles of beautiful scenery and open roads, California is a fantastic place to ride a motorcycle.  But whether you are heading up Highway 1 with some fellow riders or just going through your neighborhood on your way to work, every person who gets on a motorcycle needs to take the proper steps to stay safe.

It is crucial that motorcyclists wear the right clothes and protective equipment, are licensed, have insurance, adhere to the rules of the road and never drive impaired.  Additionally, our state offers the California Motorcyclist Safety Program, which has trained more than 617,000 people and is a great way for novice riders to gain knowledge and experience.

Automobiles also play an important role in the safety of those on motorcycles.  When we are behind the wheel of a car or truck, we need to be aware of motorcycles and remember to share the road.  Whether driving or riding, everyone on our streets is responsible for ensuring that all our travels are safe travels.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER
, Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim May 2009, as “Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month.”

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of California to be affixed this 6th day of May 2009.

ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER
Governor of California
