Protecting our children is one of California’s highest priorities, and every child deserves to have a loving and supportive home life that nurtures his or her development. It is vital that we all do our part to ensure that our youth are safe and given the opportunity to have happy childhoods.
There are no excuses for child abuse or neglect, but there are many consequences, some of which last a lifetime. Therefore, it is critical that community organizations, government resources and others come together to form a network of support that can reach out to those in need and identify the signs of child abuse. I commend these groups for their hard work and lasting commitment to strengthening our Golden State’s families.
This month, I ask all Californians to join with me in fighting child abuse. By raising awareness of this issue and standing up for the safety of children, we can help prevent child abuse and allow our young ones to look forward to bright futures.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER, Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim April 2009, as “Child Abuse Prevention Month.”
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of California to be affixed this 9th day of March 2009.
ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER
Governor of California
