With winter quickly approaching, now is an important
time for all Californians to prepare their homes for the cold months ahead. Weatherization procedures such as installing insulation,
weather stripping and other simple household repairs can go a long way toward improving
living conditions while also reducing pollution and lowering energy bills. In fact, weatherization can save you around
$350 a year in household energy expenses.
Today, I urge all Californians to take the time to
educate themselves on the benefits of weatherization and energy conservation. For low-income homeowners, community energy
providers will weatherize homes for free or at very low cost, thanks to state
and federal programs set up to meet these important needs. In 2007, the California Department of
Community Services and Development (CSD) distributed funding used to weatherize
more than 36,000 low-income residences.
Please visit www.csd.ca.gov to locate the community
energy service provider in your area, or call the CSD phone center toll-free at
1-866-675-6623. Weatherization works,
and I encourage everyone to take the steps necessary to save money, reduce
pollution and keep your homes warm this winter.
NOW,
THEREFORE, I, ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER, Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim October 30,
2008, as "Weatherization Day."
IN WITNESS
WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand
and caused the Great Seal of the State of California to be affixed this 27th day
of October 2008.
ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER
Governor of California
