Governor Schwarzenegger Announces Appointments
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today announced the following appointments:
Bob Clark, 57, of Sacramento, has been appointed director of the Office of Real Estate Appraisers. He has served as a senior land agent for the Wildlife Conservation Board since 2005. From 2000 to 2005, he served as a senior real estate officer at the Department of General Services. He was employed as a real estate analyst/administrator at the Sacramento Regional Transit District from 1999 to 2000 and operated a sole-proprietor real estate brokerage business from 1990 to 1999 and also from 1980 to 1986. Clark worked as an independent fee appraiser from 1992 to 1996 and as a staff appraiser for Cal Fed Bank in 1987 and for the Valley Appraisal Company from 1986 to 1987. He began his real estate career in multi-family development and management in Los Angeles, serving as vice president of E.W. Moulton Incorporated from 1974 to 1980 and again from 1987 to 1990. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $90,000. Clark is a Republican.
Greg Hurner, 41, of Carmichael, has been appointed deputy secretary of legislation for the State and Consumer Services Agency. Since 2007, he has served as senior advisor to the director for the Department of Fish and Game. Previously, he served as deputy director for legislation and external affairs for the California Department of Fish and Game from 2004 to 2007. Prior to that, Hurner served as legislative director for Senator Dennis Hollingsworth from 2002 to 2004 and was the senior consultant to the Assembly Republican Caucus for the Committees on Agriculture and Water, Parks and Wildlife from 1999 to 2002. In 1999, he served as acting director of the division of fairs and expositions at the California Department of Food and Agriculture and, from 1998 to 1999, he served as a fairs horse racing consultant. From 1997 to 1998, Hurner served as the legislative director at the California Department of Food and Agriculture. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $119,664. Hurner is a Republican.
Reza Karkia, D.B.A., 59, of Anaheim Hills, has been appointed to the California Health Policy and Data Advisory Commission. Since 2000, he has served as president of the American Institute of Higher Education Resources. From 1994 to 2000, Karkia held various positions at California State University, Dominguez Hills including executive director of academic affairs, executive director for university advancement and campus development and assistant executive vice president. From 1987 to 1994, he was acting chief of energy and utilities and the energy engineer for the California State University, Chancellor’s Office. From 1981 to 1987, he was vice president and general manager of W.F. Ryan Associates Incorporated and faculty at the Graduate School of Engineering, University of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no salary. Karkia is a Republican.
David Noren, 43, of Sebastopol, has been appointed to the North Coastal Regional Water Quality Control Board. Since 1996, he has served as manager of Environmental Services of EBA Engineering. From 1995 to 1996, Noren was a project manager for EnviroNet Consulting and, in 1995, was an environmental specialist for BCW Environmental. From 1989 to 1995, he was a leadman for Stero Dishwasher Manufacturing Company and, from 1979 to 1986, was an agricultural management consultant for Shasta Crop and Soil. Mr. Noren was also an intern with the City of Santa Rosa Industrial Waste Department in 1988 and was a Student Aide at El Molino High School in 1987. Noren is a co-founder and member of the Sebastopol Water Information Group and a member of the California Groundwater Association. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Noren is registered decline-to-state.
Michael McCulloch, 51, of Palm Springs, has been appointed to the San Jacinto Winter Park Authority. Since 1987, he served as partner of McCulloch & Company, CPAs and since 1997 he has owned the company where he serves as managing principal. From 2003 to 2007, McCulloch was a member of the Palm Springs City Council and, from 1984 to 1986, was tax manager for Grant Thornton CPAs. Since 1997, he has been a member of the Palm Springs Lions Club where he served as past president from 2000 to 2001. He has been a member of the Hundred Club of Palm Springs since 1996 serving as past president from 1997 to 2004. He was also a founding member of the Lincoln Club of Palm Springs in 2003 and serves as board member since 2008. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no salary. McCulloch is a Republican.
Gerald Sanders, 65, of Red Bluff, has been appointed to the Tehama District Fair Board of Directors (30th District Agricultural Association). Since 2006, he has served as a substitute teacher for various high schools in the Tehama County School District including Red Bluff High School, Los Molinos High School and Corning High School. From 1975 to 2005, Sanders owned The Tractor Shop in Red Bluff. He is past president of the Central Tehama Kiwanis Club, a member and past master of Red Bluff Masonic Lodge and a member of the Ben Ali Shriners Club in Sacramento. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no salary. Sanders is a Republican.
James Salio, 45, of Los Osos, has been appointed to the Commission on Juvenile Justice. He has worked for the San Luis Obispo County Probation Department since 1989 and has been recently appointed assistant chief probation officer. Prior to that, Salio served as a probation manager since 2001, supervising deputy probation officer from 1995 to 2001 and deputy probation officer from 1989 to 1995. He is a member of the California Association of Probation Service Administrators, the California Association of Probation Institution Administrators and the State Coalition Of Probation Organizations. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no salary. Salio is a Democrat.
Yuri Vanetik, 38, of Lemon Heights, CA, has been appointed to the California Council on Criminal Justice. Vanetik has been the managing partner of Vanetik International, a private investment and advisory firm based in Orange since 1995. Since 1999, Vanetik has served as Vice Chairman of InformINS Incorporated, an insurance industry software firm based in Fullerton. In 2002, Vanetik co-founded Private Equity Management Group and its associated group of funds. From 2002 to 2003, he was co-founder and partner of the law firm Iger, Koehler & Vanetik. Prior to that, Vanetik practiced corporate law at Kirkpatrick & Lockhart from 1997 to 1999. Vanetik is a trustee for the Kennedy Center National Symphony. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no salary. Vanetik is a Republican.
