Governor Schwarzenegger Announces Appointments

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today announced the following appointments:

Jan Boel, 63, of Gold River, has been appointed staff director for the Public Employee Post-Employment Benefits Commission. She has served as deputy director of legislative and intragovernmental affairs for the Department of General Services since 2006. Boel previously served as chief deputy director for the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research and was interim director from 2003 to 2005. Prior to that, she was vice president of federal governmental affairs for AT&T from 1995 to 1999 and AT&T’s state director from 1989 to 1994. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $125,000. Boel is a Republican.

Adrian Farley, 29, of Los Angeles, has been appointed deputy secretary of management and operations for the State and Consumer Services Agency. Since 2003, he has served as a deputy cabinet secretary for the Office of Governor Schwarzenegger. In this position, Farley oversees policy management in the areas of information technology, infrastructure development, fiscal and tax policy, emergency management, homeland security as well as other state operations. He was director of the California Performance Review in 2004. Prior to joining the Governor’s Office, he worked as a business development and public affairs advisor to numerous global companies and organizations. Previously, Farley served as an advisor to former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan from 2001 to 2003 and Los Angeles City Attorney Rockard Delgadillo in 2001. He is a graduate of Pitzer College in Claremont, California and attended the Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $106,500. Farley is registered decline-to-state.

Marty Keller, 55, of Sacramento, has been appointed small business advocate for the Governor's Office of Planning and Research. He has served as executive director of the California Automotive Business Coalition, formerly the Automotive Repair Coalition of California, since 2002. Keller was previously a consultant and president of Greenslip Incorporated, an independent automotive inspection service. He was chief of the Bureau of Automotive Repair from 1995 to 1999. Additionally, Keller has served as chief of the Bureau of Home Furnishings and Thermal Insulation and the Bureau of Electronic and Appliance Repair. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $99,000. Keller is registered decline-to-state.

Kasey Schimke, 36, of Sacramento, has been appointed assistant director of legislative affairs for the Department of Water Resources. He has served as a legislative consultant for State Senator Denise Ducheny since 2005. Schimke previously was a budget consultant to members of the California State Assembly from 2000 to 2005. In this position, he was instrumental in developing legislation to implement $9.3 billion in water bonds from 2000 to 2002. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $80,328. Schimke is a Democrat.

Margaret Walker, 50, of Sacramento, has been appointed office manager for the Public Employee Post-Employment Benefits Commission. She currently serves as scheduler for State Senator Leland Yee. From 2003 to 2006, Walker served as executive assistant to the director for the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research. Previously, she served as executive scheduler for the Governor’s Office of Special Projects in 2003 and executive scheduler for Assemblymember Tony Cardenas in the California State Legislator from 2000 to 2002. Prior to that, Walker served as secretary for the Mayor Joe Serna, Jr. of Sacramento from 1992 to 2000. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $65,000. Walker is a Democrat.
