Gov. Schwarzenegger Issues Statement on Death of Baldwin Park Soldier: Pfc. Gabriel J. Figueroa
“Private First Class Figueroa selflessly served our country with strength and valor. Gabriel’s dedication to protect our liberties is an inspiration for all Californians. Maria and I offer our condolences to Gabriel’s family, friends and loved ones in their time of mourning.”
Figueroa, 20, died April 3 as a result of injuries sustained when his unit came in contact with enemy forces using small arms fire in Baghdad, Iraq. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
In honor of Pfc. Figueroa, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.
