Governor Schwarzenegger Announces Appointments

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today announced the following appointments:

Barry Busch, 44, of Nuevo, has been appointed to the Southern California Fair Board of Directors (46th District Agricultural Association). He has served as owner and manager of Amigos Tres Restaurant and Catering since 1991 and owner of Schuler Sandwich and Catering since 2005. Busch serves on the Board of Trustees for the Perris High School District and Nuview Elementary School District and is a member of the Perris Rotary Club and Perris Chamber of Commerce. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no salary. Busch is a Republican.

Donald Currier, 48, of Folsom, has been appointed chief counsel for the California State Lottery. Since 2004, he has served as a deputy cabinet secretary for the Office of the Governor. Previously, Currier was staff counsel for the Department of Veterans Affairs, director of the division of certification, assignments and waivers for the Commission on Teacher Credentialing, chief deputy director and chief legal counsel for the Governor’s Office of Criminal Justice Planning and counsel to the Assembly Committee on Public Safety. He serves as a colonel in the Army National Guard and is the deputy commander of the 49th Military Police Brigade. Currier was recently deployed in this capacity to Iraq as the commander of the Police Partnership Task Force. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $107,500. Currier is a Republican.

Kenneth Minesinger, 36, of Riverside, has been appointed to the Southern California Fair Board of Directors (46th District Agricultural Association). Since 1995, he has been an attorney in self-practice specializing in business law. Minesinger is chair of the Riverside County Chapter of the California Republican Lawyers Association and serves on the Board of Directors. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no salary. Minesinger is a Republican.

Edward Norton, 82, of Hemet, has been appointed to the Southern California Fair Board of Directors (46th District Agricultural Association). He has served on the Board of Directors since 1976, where he currently serves as president. Norton is retired as manager from the San Jacinto Packing Company, where he served from 1951 to 1985. He is a member of Rubido Riders and Riverside Rancheros. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no salary. Norton is a Republican.

Alice Perez, 44, of Roseville, has been appointed to the Scholarshare Investment Board. She has served as manager of residential services for the Sacramento Municipal Utility District since July 2006 and was appointed to the Student Aid Commission in May 2006. Perez previously was the vice president and leader of the national multicultural banking initiatives for the U.S. Bank from 2000 to 2006. She serves on the National Low Income Energy Consortium Board, Mercy Foundation Board, Small Business Service Center Board, American Leadership Forum and Asian Pacific Chamber of Commerce in Sacramento. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Perez is a Republican.

Louis Tavaglione, 77, of Riverside, has been appointed to the Southern California Fair Board of Directors (46th District Agricultural Association). He has served on the Board of Directors since 1986. Tavaglione has served as executive vice president of Tavaglione Constuction and Development since 1962 and previously served as a real estate broker for Tava Realtors from 1950 to 1962. He is a member of the DeAnza Trail Caballeros, Riverside Rancheros Family Horse Club and Elks Club. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no salary. Tavaglione is a Democrat.

Linda Thompson, 63, of Mira Loma, has been appointed to the Southern California Fair Board of Directors (46th District Agricultural Association). She has served on the Board of Directors since 2002 and is an active member in her community. Thompson is a member of the West Riverside County Businessman’s Association and chair of the Jurupa Valley Food Fest and the Jurupa Children’s Christmas Party for underprivileged children. She also was the recipient of the Jurupa Valley Citizen of the Year for 2006. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no salary. Thompson is a Republican.

James Venable, 70, of Hemet, has been appointed to the Southern California Fair Board of Directors (46th District Agricultural Association). He most recently served on the Riverside County Board of Supervisors before retiring in 2004. Prior to that, Venable served on the Hemet City Council from 1993 to 1996 and worked for Hemet Valley Flying Service from 1954 to 1993. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no salary. Venable is a Republican.

George Woolverton, 56, of Los Angeles, has been appointed to the Fair Employment and Housing Commission. He has served on the Commission since 1999 and currently serves as chair. Woolverton has also served as managing partner with the law firm Stockwell, Harris, Widom and Woolverton since 1995. Previously, he was managing attorney with the Law Offices of Zonni, Ginocchio and Taylor from 1975 to 1995. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no salary. Woolverton is registered decline-to-state.

Byron Working, 67, of Canyon Lake, has been appointed to the Southern California Fair Board of Directors (46th District Agricultural Association). He has served on the Board of Directors since 1982 and retired in 1995 as district manager of the Automobile Club of Southern California, where he worked since 1963. He is a member of the Masonic Lodge, Moose Lodge, American Lodge and the Benevolent Order of Elks. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no salary. Working is a Republican.
