Gov. Schwarzenegger Issues Statement Congratulating Sara Granda on Passing California Bar Exam

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today issued the following statement congratulating Sara Granda, a law school graduate who is paralyzed from the neck down, on passing the California Bar Exam:

“Sara has overcome so much in her life and today I congratulate her for once again persevering and passing the California Bar Exam. Her hard work, dedication and outlook on life is an inspiration to us all and proves that opportunity lies in every obstacle. She is a fighter and today I join Sara, her family and friends and all Californians as we celebrate her tremendous achievement.”

In July, the Governor issued a statement after a report in the Sacramento Bee highlighted Granda’s story. According to the report, the state bar’s Web site never processed Granda's application for the test because the state Department of Rehabilitation, which had paid for her bar exam preparatory courses, paid her $600 fee with a check rather than Granda using a credit card online. Granda petitioned the California Supreme Court to allow her to take the exam and was subsequently granted the request.
