Gov. Schwarzenegger Issues Statement on $883 Million Recovery Act Funding Allocated for Education

Schwarzenegger released the statement below following the California Department
of Education's announcement of the allocation of $883 million in American
Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) State Fiscal Stabilization Funding
(SFSF) to local education agencies for categorical program restoration.
California was the first state in
the nation to receive SFSF funding and it was the first state to begin immediately passing
these dollars on to local education entities to protect teacher's jobs. Today's
allocation represents the remainder of the $2.56 billion in SFSF funds for K-12
education received by the state thus far as part of the Recovery Act.
"California was
the very first state to receive State Fiscal Stabilization Funding from the
federal government and the first state to begin passing the initial funding to
local schools to protect teacher's jobs. We are working around the clock with
the federal government to bring Recovery Act funding into California quickly
and for its intended purpose - which is especially important during these
difficult budget and economic times."
