Gov. Schwarzenegger Issues Statement on Announcement of Recovery Act Funding Amounts for Title I Schools & Special Education

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today released the following
statement after the California Department of Education announced the precise amounts
of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) funding Title I
schools and Special Education Local Plan Areas (SELPAs) in California will receive.
This comes on the same day that the Joint Legislative Budget Committee approved
the California Recovery Task Force's request for the state legislature to expedite budget authority to pump this funding into the classroom as quickly
and effectively as possible.
"California has been working around the clock to ensure
Recovery Act dollars are pumped into the classroom as quickly and efficiently
as possible to benefit students and protect jobs. Title I schools and Special
Education Local Plan Areas throughout the state now know with certainty how
much of this Recovery Act funding they will receive so they can plan their
budgets and focus on serving California's students."
