Gov. Schwarzenegger Announces One-Stop Local Assistance Center for Victims of Freeway Fire

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today announced the establishment of a Local Assistance Center to help victims of the recent Freeway Fire. The one-stop shop center, located at East Anaheim Gymnasium in Anaheim, CA, will provide state and local services to those who have been displaced by the wildfire and experienced property loss and economic and other damages.

"My thoughts are with the California families, residents and property owners who have suffered personal losses as a result of this fire," Governor Schwarzenegger said. "It is important that we do everything we can to help the communities impacted by the fire. This assistance center will provide the necessary state and local services to help Californians recover and give them the tools they need to rebuild their lives."

The center, located at the East Anaheim Gymnasium, 8165 E. Santa Ana Canyon Road, Anaheim, CA, will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 18. For more information please contact (714) 765-3100.

Representatives from the Governor's Office of Emergency Services and various state, local and community-based organizations will be at the center to provide information on services available to help those affected by the fire.

As of today, Governor Schwarzenegger has declared a State of Emergency in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties.

More than 28,000 acres have been burned and fire officials report it is now 40 percent contained. So far, the fire has destroyed over 60 residences and damaged over 100 others.  Over 49,000 people have been evacuated at different points as flames spread across freeways and through neighborhoods.
