Governor Schwarzenegger Issues Statement on Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park Centennial Celebration
Governor Arnold
Schwarzenegger released the following statement today regarding the Colonel Allensworth
State Historic Park Centennial Celebration:
"The hundred acres in California's
Central Valley known as Allensworth is rich
with a history that is important to all Californians. It was 100 years ago that
Colonel Allen Allensworth and four other men seeking to escape discrimination
came to California and, with a big vision, bought a fertile piece of land in
Tulare County - the only California town to be founded, financed and governed
by African-Americans. I am proud that, last year, we were able to protect
Allensworth as a State Park, and I join all Californians this weekend in
celebrating the rich history of the town and the people who have sought the California dream there."
