Gov. Schwarzenegger Appoints Three to Orange County Superior Court


Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today announced the appointments of William D. Claster, Lon F. Hurwitz and Joe T. Perez to judgeships in the Orange County Superior Court.
 
Claster, 58, of Corona del Mar, has served as an associate, then partner, for Gibson, Dunn and Crutcher since 1976. He earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Stanford University. He fills the vacancy created by the conversion of a court commissioner position on October 8, 2010. Claster is a Republican.   
 
Hurwitz, 56, of Santa Ana, has been a commissioner for the Orange County Superior Court since 2004. He was special counsel for the California State Senate in 2004. Hurwitz served as a sole practitioner from 1999 to 2004 and 1983 to 1990. He was a partner for the Law Office of Hurwitz and Humphreys from 1990 to 1998. Hurwitz served as a partner for the Law Office of Sandquist Rokes and Hurwitz from 1979 to 1983. He earned a Juris Doctorate degree from Southwestern University School of Law and a Bachelor of Science degree from California State University, Long Beach. He fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Randell L. Wilkinson. Hurwitz was elected in June 2010 to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Randell L. Wilkinson. The Governor’s appointment allows him to immediately take his position on the bench. Hurwitz is registered decline-to-state.
 
Perez, 48, of Fullerton, has served as a commissioner for the Orange County Superior Court since 2007. He was a deputy public defender for the Orange County Pubic Defender’s Office from 1995 to 2007 and a sole practitioner in 1995. Perez earned a Juris Doctorate degree from Southwestern University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. He fills the vacancy created by the conversion of a court commissioner position on October 8, 2010. Perez is a Democrat.
 

The compensation for each position is $178,789.
