I am so excited about the digital textbooks initiative California just launched. Starting with high school math and science books, this initiative paves the way for easier access to free digital texts in California's schools. By frequently updating texts as they are developed, rather than continuing to teach from outdated textbooks, we will better prepare our students. Read MoreAbout digital textbooks »

A garden teaches a child about the delicate balance of nature through a hands-on relationship with other living organisms. As urban society struggles with so many social ills, hope can be found in our own backyard. It is without irony that the lessons to be learned in a garden can provide us with a better understanding of what it takes to create a paradise. Read MoreAbout WE Garden in Capitol Park »

The Governor made mention this morning about the fact that we have already had delivered to us portions of the federal stockpile of TAMIFLU and we have already delivered those to counties that have already had some cases of flu in them. We are continuing our efforts at aggressive surveillance. We want to reiterate the importance to individuals of personal hygiene, hand washing, or course covering their nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, and stay home if you're sick.
